What is Eczema?
Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic, non-contagious condition that makes your skin red, itchy and uncomfortable. It is a common skin disorder that can occur at any age and frequently affects infants and children. Eczema does not always look the same on every sufferer. For some, they experience puffy, itchy, fluid–filled blisters that can ooze, while others have dry, red, itchy areas on their body that become darker over time. No matter how it presents, it is a painful, unpleasant nuisance.
Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, can be long lasting with periodic flare ups before it subsides. In many cases, atopic dermatitis is accompanied by allergies and or asthma. There are also several types of eczema which can affect different areas of the body. Some of these types include contact eczema, allergic contact dermatitis, nummular dermatitis, dyshidrotic eczema and several other types.
Although eczema is a common skin problem, no cure has been found for it. Applying medicated creams or ointments and moisturizing your skin daily can help prevent new outbreaks and soothe already irritated skin.
The causes of eczema or eczema flare ups are different for each person affected and irritants should be avoided.
Some causes of Eczema:
-Using harsh soaps and other irritating face or body cleansers
– Bathing in hot water
-Sweating and overheating
– Scratchy clothing and fabrics
– Stress
– Certain Foods
